Mangosteen
The Purple mangosteen, botanical name Garcinia magostana, simply referred to as mangosteen, is an ultra-tropical slow growing evergreen tree that is cultivated for its edible fruit.

Showing off sleek, spear-shaped white and red leaves, treviso, is a mild variety of radicchio that ranges in size from a small Belgian endive to a large head of romaine lettuce. Its elongated leaves distinguish this radicchio variety from verona or round-shaped radicchio. Treviso's crisp, sturdy leaves offer an earthy, bitter edge.
Treviso is an excellent source of vitamin A, potassium, calcium, plus provides a very good source of vitamin C.
Treviso, like other bitter chicory greens, can be served fresh or cooked. Slice and saute treviso with onions, then fill fresh pasta and serve ravioli with a parmesan cream sauce. Combine chopped treviso with warm, cooked lentils, diced celery, capers and lemon vinaigrette. Separate whole leaves of treviso from the head, toss with olive oil, parmesan cheese and roast until browned and serve as a side dish. Treviso will keep, refrigerated, for a week.
Treviso is believed to have been one of the "bitter herbs" consumed by the children of Israel during the Passover before their hasty exodus from Egypt.
Native to the Veneto region of northern Italy, the towns of Treviso, Verona, Chioggia and Castelfranco have each developed their own distinct variety of this vegetable. Treviso grows in the United States, Chile and Italy.
