Whole Walnuts
Inventory, lb : 0
Description/Taste
Walnuts still in the shell maintain optimal freshness and the richest flavor since their exposure to oxygen has been limited. Within the hard wrinkly walnut shell are two lobes of walnut meat that are encased in a thin brown skin. The slightly sweet nuts are tannic yet buttery and are best when slightly toasted.
Seasons/Availability
Walnuts are available year-round, but are harvested in the fall.
Current Facts
Walnuts are botanically part of the Juglans genus, and the most commonly consumed species is J. regia, otherwise called the Persian or English walnut. The meat of the walnut is a protein rich superfood, packed with antioxidants which exist in the skin of the nut. Since walnuts have a high oil content, the protective brown skin is necessary to prevent spoilage. These walnuts are grown in Dinuba, CA at Terry Ranch and come in the shell.
