The fruit can be elongated because of the high juice content. The flesh of the Sanguinelli is orange with multiple blood-colored streaks and like most blood oranges contains numerous seeds.

It is a hybrid variety that evolved from unknown parentage. The Sanguinelli is close in characteristics to the Moro blood orange.
