Japanese Black radish have an exterior skin that is black to dull brown, slightly dry, and rough. The Black radish can be found in varying shapes; round, top shaped, or long and slender. Its flesh is bright white, dense, and crisp with a low water content. It offers a spicy flavor especially when it is eaten raw. When it is cooked, it has a similar taste and texture to white potatoes.

Japanese Black radish, also known as Kuro daikon, Spanish radish, or simply Black radish is a member of the Brassicaceae family. Botanically they are a part of Raphanus sativus and an herbaceous plant that is typically grown biannually.
In Japan the Japanese Black radish is sometimes used as a remedy for healthy skin and hair. It is rich in vitamin C which acts as a natural antioxidant for your skin, and vitamin B that can help skin disorders caused by fungal or bacterial infections. Also it is thought that the spicy radish can stimulate hair roots and enhance the blood circulation of the scalp thus nourishing hair.
