Garlic Chives

Description/Taste
Garlic chives have flat strap-like stems versus hollow, thin, spherical stems of common chives. They can grow up to 25 centimeters in height and 1 centimeter wide. Younger chives are tender and will become woody as they mature. Small white flowers will bloom atop the chive leaves during the summer months. The flavor of Garlic chives is similar to that of onion chives but with more of an intense spiciness familiar to garlic. Cooking Garlic chives will mellow out the intense flavor and bring out a slight sweetness.
Seasons/Availability
Garlic chives are available beginning late winter through the summer months.
Current Facts
Garlic chives are also known as Chinese chives, which is their more recognizable name. They are grown for culinary and ornamental purposes. Both leaves and the flowers are used as a flavoring similarly to standard chives.
