Description/Taste
Black barley are small barley kernels that are a dark purple-brown in color. Unlike hulled barley, this hull-less barley has its bran layer intact so that it goes through minimal processing, keeping more if its nutrients intact. Barley has a chewy, nutty flavor and does not lose its color when cooked.

Black barley, Hordeum vulgare, is a member of the grass family. Barley was one of the first cultivated grains, originating thousands of years ago in the Nile River Valley.
