This wheat berry blend is a combination of Sonora and Red fife wheat berries grown in Hollister, CA. Red fife wheat is a hard red winter heritage grain originally from Turkey, with an excellent deep flavor and high protein content. Sonora wheat is a soft white winter heritage variety, originally from Spain and grown in the California missions. It has a lower gluten content and lovely white-golden color.

Roan Mills Wheat Berry Blend comes from Kenter Canyon Farms in Sun Valley, CA. It is a family run operation lead by husband-wife team Andrea Crawford and Robert Deadlow, whose first names combine to create Roan Mills. Crawford has been growing vegetables since the early ‘80s when she began supplying greens and herbs to Alice Waters and Wolfgang Puck. They currently specialize in salad greens and heirloom wheat which they also mill and bake.
