This succulent variety is scrumptiously sweet and crisp. Green Gem lettuce is actually a small size of romaine. Although it is full grown, this specialty romaine variety is about half the size of regular romaine boasting succulent rich green leaves that measure about five inches in length and about three inches in width. Having a pale, green heart and offering an even crisper center and sweeter taste than common lettuce, Green Gem lettuce never develops a bitter flavor.
Applications
Vibrant green, this colorful lettuce adds crunch and flavor to mixed green fresh salads. Ideal side salad served on its own. Drizzle with vinaigrette or balsamic vinegar dressing. Perfect enhancement for specialty sandwiches and wraps. Use as bed for grilled, sautéed or roasted meats and vegetables. To store, refrigerate in a plastic bag or in a lettuce keeper. Use within one week for optimum quality, color and flavor.
