Brussels sprouts are members if the Brassica family and therefor kin to broccoli and cabbage. They do, indeed, resemble miniature cabbage. They are hardy and slow growing winter vegetable.

Description/Taste
Chinese eggplant are characterized by their long, thin shape and unique purple coloring (though there are also white and variegated varieties). Chinese eggplant can grow up to eighteen inches in length and two inches in diameter, and have the sweetest, mildest flavor of all eggplant varieties. Their flesh is typically white, meaty and nearly seedless.
Applications
Chinese eggplant are sweeter and have less seeds than globe eggplant, making them less bitter. They are well suited for braising, stir frying, grilling, baking and frying. Eggplant holds up well to strong spicy, sweet and savory flavors. Chinese eggplant will keep, refrigerated, for one to two weeks.
Geography/History
The eggplant is a member of the nightshade family, Solanaceae, and is a close relative to the tomato and potato. It is native to Nepal, India, Bangladesh, Pakistan, and Sri Lanka.
