Hot House Cucumbers
Similar to common cucumbers, hothouse cucumbers are much longer, contain fewer seeds and are most often called English cucumbers.
Green Swiss Chard
Swiss chard leaves grow on a pale whitish-green stalk. Shiny and dark green, the crinkly green leaves offer a taste that lies somewhere between asparagus and celery with possibly a hint of beet.

Current Facts
The Pink Pearl is among hundreds of heirloom varieties that is near extinction. Only a handful of farmers in the U.S. are still growing and harvesting them.
Description/Taste
The typically misshapen Pink Pearlis wrapped in a pale, dull yellowish-brown skin with a slight pearl blush. Revealing a crisp pink interior, the flavor is sweetly-tart.
Geography/History
In 1944, Pink Pearl heirloom apples were hybridized in Northern California crossed with an apple named Surprise, a red-fleshed rather sour variety. It is thought that this latter apple was derived from a century old variety of red-fleshed Turkish crab apples. Albert Etter is said to have developed Pink Pearl to create a sweeter tasting apple.
