The West Indian Gherkin cucumber is not a true cucumber, and is known by the botanical name Cucumis anguria. This fruit was first introduce into the USA via Jamaica in 1793. The outer skin of the West Indian Gherkin is a bright green and has small protrusions or bumps. Small in size, this gherkin offers a strong green flavor with a nice crunchy texture and mild sour notes.
West Indian Gherkin cucumber is available in the spring, typically later in the season.
