Mangosteen
The Purple mangosteen, botanical name Garcinia magostana, simply referred to as mangosteen, is an ultra-tropical slow growing evergreen tree that is cultivated for its edible fruit.

Current Facts
Oregano is known botanically as Origanum vulgare. It is a member of the mint family. As it is so closely related to marjoram, it is referred to as wild marjoram in many parts of Europe, but oregano and marjoram have their separate identities in the kitchen. Oregano is cultivated for both its fresh and dried leaves, although it loses much of its flavor and aroma in dried form.
Description/Taste
Oregano grows on stout bushy plants with thick stems producing small ovate fuzzy leaves. It releases an earthy and mint-like aroma and its flavor is layered with pepper, mint and balsamic notes.
Applications
Oregano is a traditional Mediterranean herb and features heavily in Greek and Italian cuisine. Pair fresh and dried oregano with cured olives, sheep's milk cheeses, tomatoes, pork, lamb, potatoes, pasta and rices. It is an ideal aromatic for meat stews and can compliment olive oil sauces for grilled and baked fish. Keep cool and dry until ready to use.
Ethnic/Cultural Info
The penetrating aroma of oregano is mostly associated with Italian cooking, especially tomato sauces and pizza. In Spain, oregano flavors chicken, lamb and vegetables.
Geography/History
Native to warm-temperate western and southwestern Eurasia and the Mediterranean region, oregano grows generally as a perennial plant, but in the harsher climates of North America, it grow as an annual.
