Slightly flattened these pumpkins average eight to twenty-five pounds and have thick, sweet, vibrant orange hued flesh. Their appearance is reminiscent of the pumpkin/carriage in the classic fairytale, Cinderella.

The Fairytale pumpkin, also known as Musque De Provence is a member of the species Cucurbita moschata. This heirloom variety pumpkin is prized for its excellent flavor and also for its unique shape and coloring.
Fairytale pumpkins can be used in any pumpkin recipe. Their sweet flavor is highlighted well in desserts and used as filling in pies and tartlets. Puree to make pumpkin butter or soups. Roasting or grilling will enhance the sweet flavor of the Fairytale pumpkin. This pumpkin can also be eaten fresh when cut from the middle as you would a wedge of cheese and then slicing very thinly.
At first growing dark green, sunlight eventually turns the color of this variety to its unusual color when reaching maturity. An old variety native to France, it is still today popular in France where cut wedges of it are sold in markets. The Fairytale pumpkin was first introduced to the American market in 1899 by Vaughn’s Seed Store of Chicago.
