Geography/History
Baby coconuts, also called mini coconuts, dwarf coconuts, coquito nuts, coker nuts, pygmy coconuts or monkey's coconut, are the fruit of a Chilean palm tree, Jubaea chilensis, which takes up to fifty years to produce. Native to the coastal valleys in Chile that do not have extremes of either cold or heat, this palm tree now grows worldwide in Mediterranean-type climates including the state of California. Sometimes candied, they are eaten raw or made into confections.
