Apple mint is a perennial plant member of the genus, Mentha grown as both a culinary herb and an ornamental plant for ground cover.
Apple mint, AKA wooly mint, is grown for its aromatic and uniquely colored leaves. Its green leaves are slightly furred and wrinkled with white and cream blushed tips. It imparts sweet and fruity flavors, although it has less mint flavor compared to other culinary mint varieties.
As apple mint has slight flavor and looses the little flavor it has when cooked, its best reserved for a garnish for both sweet and savory dishes.
Apple mint has been cultivated primarily for medicinal purposes for thousands of years in Europe, Africa, Asia and the Americas.
